Tiger Swallowtail is one of the most unique butterflies in the world. It comes from North America. It’s a migratory species, very unique among other American butterflies. They became the inspiration for the new FJÄRIL round extendable table because of their beautiful, linear patterns on the wings. FJÄRIL in Swedish means butterfly. We have tried to reproduce these patterns on an oak tabletop. It consists of tightly arranged oak planks creating a unique motif. A reference to it can also be found in the table frame itself, the arrangement of which corresponds to the mentioned patterns. Additionally, FJÄRIL is an extendable table, the reference to two wings fluttering in the wind is obvious here.
FJÄRIL wooden table – main features
- Uniqueness – designed and made entirely by SFD. This is a completely new story, which is based on our experience from Scandinavia. Founded in Sweden | Craft production in Poland | Thinking Globally
- Lightness – the FJÄRIL oak table was designed to be extremely light in its form. Thanks to this, it is a great addition to the minimalist interior.
- Simplicity – is the state or quality of being simple. FJÄRIL`s simplest and fewest elements are used to create the maximum effect!
- The illusion of movement – the round extendable table FJÄRIL, due to its dynamic silhouette, gives the impression of movement. Especially when it is unfolded. Do not let it get away!
- Great respect for wildlife and nature – round oak table FJÄRIL as well as all our designs was made with great respect to the surrounding nature. We use only ecological materials that do not harm the environment. This is also reflected in the name of the table itself, which in Swedish means butterfly.
How it’s made? Some details about FJÄRIL round extendable oak table
First – the idea
As usual, everything started in our heads. For a long time now, we have been discussing together how to create a round table, which, in addition to its unique, minimalist look, will also perform everyday functions. Hearing the voices of our wonderful customers, who were looking not only for a stylish craft table but also for typical functions such as the ability to easily extend the tabletop or hide additional elements under it. We managed to implement these features without violating the previously assumed minimalist, Scandinavian silhouette of the furniture.
Below we present more detailed technical aspects of the FJÄRIL round table:
Construction of the FJÄRIL round extendable table
We have turned our idea into a prototype and then into the right design. The prototyping process itself is quite a difficult task, but it brings a lot of satisfaction when we manage to reach a common consensus.
FJÄRIL like all our oak furniture is made 100% by hand by a team of wonderful craftsmen. The materials used by us are specially selected for each table model. They are solid oak wood, protected by natural wax oil, in case of a tabletop. The table frame is made of high-quality steel painted with extremely resistant powder paint.
The mechanism of extending the table top was supplied by a company specializing in this type of solution, so we are confident about its quality and guarantee a long life.

It is the result of our work over the last few years. Its precursors are the MANE table series. MÅNE WHITE oak table or MÅNE BLACK II wooden table are also the extendable round tables on which FJÄRIL was based. What are the differences? FJÄRIL has a completely different, refreshed frame construction. The design of the top is reflected in its lower frame part. This creates an extremely coherent whole in terms of design. However, the biggest change is the new system of the top extension with the possibility of storing additional elements just below it. This saves space and enables the quick unfolding of the table in the least expected moment.

- Tabletop: 25mm thick (±2mm), specially selected, smoothed solid oak wood.
- Impregnation: natural wood oil
- Table base: 25x50mm steel section, powder-coated in glossy white mat black or custom RAL colour
Our main principles when creating FJÄRIL round extendable table
Our main goals accompany us all the time. You can find them even in the tags with which we mark our publications. These are:
#WLCM_CRAFT – yes – you guessed it, all our furniture is 100% handmade by excellent craftsmen.
#WLCM_DESIGN – as designers we cannot escape from this. The design has great value to us.
#WLCM_HOME – a home should be a wonderfully inviting place, we want it to never lose its charm. (thanks Hygge!)
#WLCM_NATURE – we have great respect for nature, and we want it to be visible in our every project.
When creating the FJÄRIL oak table we did not fail to use these assumptions. Our goal was to create a table that would not only be inspired by nature but would not burden it in any way. That is why we use upcycled oak to build the tabletop, which was protected by 100% ecological, natural wax oil. For painting the frame, we also use safe powder paints, which do not emit dangerous compounds into the environment during painting.
Not only FJÄRIL wooden table but all our furniture is handcrafted by excellent, experienced craftsmen. For what they do, we give them incredible respect and we are grateful to fate, we can work with such talented people.
